I’m Nicole Stern, founder of Fertilista. If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through a fertility website—maybe after your Orange Theory class or during your quick lunch break in the staff lounge—you’ve likely seen prenatal lube pop up in your recommendations. And just like so many women I’ve worked with, you might wonder:
Do I need prenatal lube to get pregnant?
Let’s get super clear on this, babe: the answer is no… no, no, no, no… with one exception.
WHAT IS PRENATAL LUBE (AND WHAT ISN’T IT)?
Prenatal lube is marketed as a “fertility-friendly” lubricant designed to support conception. It’s advertised as being pH-balanced, sperm-friendly, and safe to use when you’re trying to conceive. But here’s the thing…
You do not need it to help sperm meet the egg.
You do not need it to recalibrate the pH of your uterus.
Unless you’re feeling dry or having difficulty with “time to intercourse,” this lube is not a must-have.
WHEN PRENATAL LUBE MIGHT ACTUALLY HELP
Let’s face it. You’ve been planning, tracking, peeing on sticks, syncing with apps, and giving it your all. Maybe your job as an RN means you’re on your feet for 14 hours. Or perhaps you and your partner are so slammed with work that the thought of fitting in sex every other day from day 10 to 20 feels more like a chore than a romantic connection.
I’ve talked to so many women, just like you, who are trying to schedule time for sex during their fertile window. That’s sex five times in 10 days. And if you don’t know exactly when you’re ovulating, you might be trying to cover all your bases.
If this feels like a lot, especially if things feel a little dry down there, then yes, a high-quality lube (or “prenatal lube”) can give a little comfort.
But it will not be the deciding factor as to whether or not you conceive this cycle.
SUPPORTING YOUR FERTILITY FROM THE INSIDE OUT
Instead of relying on a tube of lube to do the heavy lifting, I want you to focus on what actually helps improve cervical fluid and supports egg quality. These are things that will truly boost your chances of getting pregnant.
Here’s what I recommend to all my Fertilista clients:
- A high-quality prenatal vitamin – one with bioavailable folate (not folic acid), iron, and B12
- A pharmaceutical-grade fish oil – with at least 1,200 mg of combined EPA and DHA
- A comprehensive mineral – rich in magnesium, zinc, and selenium
These supplements are game changers. Not only do they assist with egg and follicular development, but they can help with dryness naturally. They also support your body’s ability to get alkaline—a more fertile environment for conception actually to happen.
When your diet is dialed in and your lifestyle is optimized (yes, even with the crazy work schedule!), you’re setting your body up for success.
FINAL THOUGHT? IT’S ABOUT STRATEGY, NOT JUST STUFF
It’s so easy to get caught up in the endless scroll of “fertility must-haves.” But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to buy every product pushed your way.
You don’t need prenatal lube to get pregnant.
Use it if it helps make sex more comfortable.
Focus instead on nourishing your body with the right nutrients.
At Fertilista, we help professional women like you get strategic with their fertility. It’s about aligning your schedule, supplements, and sex timing with where your body truly is—not what Instagram tells you to buy.
I want to see you pregnant – and thriving – as soon as possible. Let’s get you there.
